About
I’m an artist and illustrator living and working in Beit Shemesh, Israel. I paint figures in luminous landscapes in oil on canvas, using expressive brushwork, light, and color to explore themes of journey, belonging, memory, and our relationship with the natural and spiritual world.
My childhood in South Africa, my Jewish heritage, and life in Israel all shape my work. I’m interested in the relationship between people and the land, and in how landscapes can hold memory, emotion, and a sense of something beyond what is visible. The figures in my paintings move through open spaces that reflect both an inner and an outer journey, exploring questions of home, displacement, and connection.
I’m drawn to those quiet moments when a landscape seems to hold emotion, memory, or hope, and I try to capture that feeling in paint. I hope my work creates a quiet space for reflection, inviting viewers to bring their own experiences to the paintings and find a sense of recognition, openness, or connection to something larger than themselves.

Shiran Zaray-Mizrahi is an Israeli painter and illustrator whose work explores the relationship between place, memory, and inner experience, and the layered meanings landscapes accumulate over time. Working primarily in oil on canvas, she combines impressionistic figuration with expressive brushwork to create atmospheric paintings that evoke both physical and emotional terrain.
Born in Israel and raised in South Africa, she studied Illustration at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York before returning to Israel. After a decade working as a graphic designer, she transitioned to a full-time art practice. Her paintings often feature solitary figures within expansive landscapes, exploring themes of journey, longing, home, and spiritual searching. Drawing on personal experience and the landscapes of Israel and South Africa, she creates spaces that invite contemplation and emotional connection.
Alongside her studio practice, she works as a professional illustrator for publications and children’s media. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and cultural institutions throughout Israel, and she is a recipient of the 2025 Keren Hatarbut (Ministry of Culture) Award. She lives and works in Beit Shemesh, Israel.
